Safety, Size, Hearth, Inspections!
Above all else the most important issue is your safety, your safety is our main goal! We would love to have customer satisfaction and safety all in one, however it just doesn’t always work that way. Here at Abb Stoves we install only appliances that are up to current code requirements, meaning all safety precautions that came with the stove are on the stove and in proper operational order.
CO2 Detectors are a must! Oregon State Law requires that all Carbon “sources,” wood, pellet, gas, or oil have a carbon monoxide detector within 15 feet of bedrooms! Its the law we will not install a stove without it.
When it comes to sizing of the stove to the area it will realistically heat here at Abb Stoves we have a combined 20 years experience. In choosing a stove it is better to chose a stove that will heat a few hundred square feet more than a few hundred square feet less, if the stove is to be used as a primary heat source. When stoves are used as a primary heat source and undersized you will (1) be disappointed in your purchase, (2) overwork the stove, (3) eventually over-fire the stove to the point of warping or cracking.
Hearths are fun whether you chose to make your own or pick one from our store selection! If you chose to make your own be sure to read the manufacturers instructions carefully regarding stove clearances. 1/4 of an inch short and the inspector may not pass the installation. Also note that when making your own hearth, it needs to be a minimum of 3/8 of an inch thick, NON-COMBUSTIBLE material!
Inspections are required for any stove installation. This is for the safety of you, your family and your home. Abb Stove will not install a stove without a permit. IT’S AGAINST THE LAW!
